A Legacy That Will Last Forever

Santa-Clara-University-LogoWhen Santa Clara University engaged us to produce this video, we knew that we were going to be involved in something special. The first clue was when our long-time client told us that this was “probably the most important video of his career”. No pressure. The video would debut at an SCU Trustees meeting and then go on-line to tell the story of an incredible gift the University had received.

As we learned more and dug deeper, we realized that the story was a powerful one and the gift was not the end of the story but in some ways the beginning. You can watch the video to hear the back-story but the bottom line was that the University was randomly contacted about a potential gift of over $10 million plus a rich library of digital content. The catch: The benefactors, Phil and Peggy Holland, wanted their intellectual property, the Mind Your Own Business, Inc., MOBI, website to be in the right hands. You would first think that the MOBI founders were SCU grads. Not true. Phil graduated from USC–same initials rearranged ☺. MOBI-Phil-and-Peggy-HollandPhil and his wife, Peggy, seriously considered USC but in the end decided on Santa Clara because of its vision, its international missions, and its Jesuit Philosophy.

Producing the video was pretty straight forward—one day in LA and another two days locally, combined with some existing imagery and graphics. The power of the piece would come in the scripting and editing—telling the Holland’s and MOBI story and leaving viewers with an appreciation of what can be done with such a significant gift. Additionally, how Santa Clara as a University has appeal well beyond their Alumni.

The program came together in post-production as collaboration between Tam and myself and our clients as we fine-tuned the program until it was exactly what the University ordered.
